Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

Add crumbled tofu and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the tofu starts to brown and crisp, about 4-6 minutes.

Add chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder, stirring to coat the tofu. Toast the spices for 1-2 minutes.

Pour in the tomato puree and barbecue sauce. Season with salt to taste, then bring the mixture to a simmer for 2-5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Scoop the sloppy joe mixture onto a bun, top with pickles, and add the top bun. Serve.
